THE SUN

The Beaufort Gyre, a key Arctic Ocean current, is acting strangely. Scientists say it may be on the verge of discharging a huge amount of ice and cold freshwater that could kick off a period of lower temperatures in northern Europe.

Physicists are a strange breed (they are going to cringe at this post). They are brilliant no doubt, but when it comes to explaining things to the rest of us who are not brilliant they really do a lousy job. A prime example is spectrum charts. The majority of spectrum charts show a y axis with some kind of intensity...

A USGS publication "Cycles of Hurricane Landfalls on the Eastern United States Linked to Changes in Atlantic Sea-surface Temperatures" [https://pubs.usgs.gov/circ/1306/pdf/c1306_ch2_a.pdf] states: "AMO variability is related to variation in density-driven, global ocean circulation patterns that involve movement of warm equatorial surface waters...

The Sun - Take a basketball and a black felt pen. Using the felt pen place a dot on the basketball. You have just created an effective visual representation of the relative size of our Sun versus the size of our Earth.

Never mind 60 year cycles. We're on the verge of a 350 year Grand Minimum. That's really going to set the Fox among the Pigeons! And we're preparing for hot times ahead. God help us all.

Humans only live a very short time. We only see short term changes in our environments. We are just a pinprick in the massive scheme of things and yet we think "our time" defines "all time". How arrogant and stupid, but typical for a species that has put itself forward as above the rules of Nature for over 200,000 years. ...

SEE THAT BIG YELLOW THING UP IN THE SKY? IT'S OUR EARTH'S FURNACE, AND OUR THERMOSTAT IS NOT CONSTANT. SOLAR HEAT IS COMMONLY MEASURED BY THE COUNTING OF SUN SPOTS, A VISUAL INDICATOR TO JUST HOW "ANGRY" THE SUN IS AT ANY GIVEN TIME. HOT PEAKS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY LOTS OF SUN SPOTS AND COLD TROUGHS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY AN ABSENCE OF SUN SPOTS....

When you stand on Earth and look up at the Sun it looks small. It's easy to overlook and even easier to have no conception of how important it is to the existence of our planet. We can't help it. We're human beings and we have a massive ego when it comes to everything we touch. We actually think it's...

Is there a centrifugal effect? Why would it change? What could we expect if the earth sped up? Slowed down? Some theories say it happens, "throwing" our Earth’s water towards the poles or forces a retreat back to the equator - changing sea levels in those areas as they "overfill" or "underfill" the available spaces relative to the rotation....
